Our Innovations

TerraNexus

At Pangaea Innovations we are pioneers in the design and implementation of Discrete Global Grid Systems (DGGS) - particularly in 3D and 4D. Our DGGS platform service, TerraNexus, represents a way to bypass the computation burden of conventional spatial data integration methods.

A DGGS is a hierarchical set of tessellations of the entire Earth from global scales down to cubic microns. Each zone/cell of the DGGS has a unique identifier that can be used to provide an index reference to each object of a spatial dataset. Once indexed, these objects and features can then be queried and spatially integrated together by single index lookup operations rather than complex and computationally intensive spatial data operations.

And, because the process of mapping/indexing a spatial dataset to a DGGS is a single once off operation, DGGS provide a massive efficiency gain in the long term and ongoing use of that data.

Patented Technology

TerraNexus is a multi-DGGS data integration platform that enables data to be mapped to, and integrated across, multiple DGGS instances in multiple dimensions (from 2D through to 4D). This capability is underpinned by our Patented methodology that enables standard 2D Surface DGGS implementations to be extended to full 3D/4D Volumetric DGGS implementations. Our patent also describes a unified global indexing approach that enables all TerraNexus DGGS instances to be accessed using the same index search algorithm regardless of the structural and software differences between each DGGS instance.

International Standards Compliant

Interoperability is one of the greatest challenges we face in our endeavours to deliver informed and evidence-based decisions from the massive amount of data we are collecting around the world at an ever increasing rate. International Standards provide a common and consistent basis that we can use to manage and share these data within and between origanisations and across different technical domains.

TerraNexus is compliant with a number of key international standards that govern the storage, encoding and secure sharing of geospatial data across the internet. This enables TerraNexus and the data mapped to it to be deployed within and across our customers existing data infrastures without requiring any major redesign of their systems.

Secure and Scalable By Design

TerraNexus is secure and scalable by design.

Built on a Django web application interface, TerraNexus, is able to provide direct access and integration to state-of-the-art Data Science routines using python (arguably the best software language in the world for Data Science Applications).

System and user access security is provided by the Django Rest Framework (DRF) through a combination of:

  • Java Web Tokens (JWT);
  • Single Sign-On;
  • Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA); and,
  • Role-level Access restrictions to various functions and data.

Scalability is ensured by a Kubernetes Cluster Deployment model. This enables TerraNexus to be deployed across a wide range of compute infrastructures, including:

  • Laptop Computers;
  • Desktop Computeers;
  • Private (Bare Metal) Servers (e.g. Equinix); and,
  • High Performance Compute (HPC) / High Performance Data (HPD) Infrastructures (e.g. National Compute Infrastructure, Australian National University); and,
  • Public/Commercial Cloud Compute Platforms (e.g. Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Compute Platform (GCP), and Microsoft Azure)

Scalable Billing Options

We offer TerraNexus as a "DGGS as a Service" (SaaS) product.

And because of the modular and containerised architecture TerraNexus is built on, we can deploy TerraNexus on almost any compute hardware you like.

We charge a one-off deployment fee plus a flexible usage fee that can be structured on system uptime, system usage, or number of API calls.

If you have multiple data integration use cases across your organisation and would like to benefit from TerraNexus at the organisation level, we are happy to discuss Enterprise Deployment Solutions.
